Solution

Out of several fun concepts, I chose the most direct and visceral: to do this class, you have to simply take the plunge. A complementary and bold color palette inject energy sturdy yet flexible typography brings the spirit of hard work and teamwork; and the subject of the illustration evokes the diversity at the heart of the CCSF experience. This cover was the runner-up pick, and will be used in the Fall 2020 edition.

Solution

I wanted this funny scene to highlight what happens when an animal goes against its nature. In this case, a dog is ridiculed by some cruel squirrels. Compositionally, attention is focused through color contrast to the dog and let the foreground and background fade somewhat in emphasis.
